As I was going through some of my records, I happened to notice that my great-great grandmother applied for her marriage license, not her fiancé/husband.
By today’s standard, this is not in the least unusual. But in 1889? This seems a bit unusual… but I am not an expert on marriage applications or on the late 1880s. I know almost nothing about Rosa and only a little more about Louis.
I get the impression that Rosa’s sister, Anna Martin, was a force of nature. Her daughter, Nellie, was quite independent. I wonder if this was a Jacobs’ trait?
